Teamprise Announces Compatibility with Microsoft Visual Studio 2008

Teamprise Client Suite to support the latest features in the Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 release of Team Foundation Server.

ORLANDO, June 4 — Microsoft TechEd 2007 — Teamprise today announced plans to support the upcoming Visual Studio 2008 release of Team Foundation Server. The Teamprise Client Suite, which provides Java developers and cross-platform development teams with full access to the software development lifecycle features of Visual Studio Team Foundation Server, will be upgraded to support the performance enhancements and new features coming in Visual Studio 2008, currently in Beta.

“Microsoft is adding several significant enhancements to Visual Studio Team Foundation Server in the areas of work item tracking and build management, among others,” said Ben Pryor, senior software engineer on the Teamprise Client Suite. “Our goal is to support those features and make them available to Java developers using our plug-in for Eclipse as well as Unix developers on platforms such as Linux and Solaris.”

Teamprise is planning to release a compatible version of the Teamprise Client Suite in the same timeframe as the final release of Visual Studio 2008. The company has recently joined the Visual Studio 2008 Technology Adoption Program (TAP), which allows it to begin using the current Visual Studio 2008 Beta 1 release of Team Foundation Server in a production environment, supported by the Microsoft product team.

“By joining the Visual Studio 2008 TAP program, we’re confident our product will be ready for release to our customers when the next version of Team Foundation Server ships, while also giving us the opportunity to provide technical feedback on the server to Microsoft to increase the quality of both products,” said John O’Neill, vice president of sales for Teamprise. “It’s important to us that every member of a development organization, both Microsoft .NET and Java developers alike, have full access to the latest features and enhancements.”

“Through support for Visual Studio 2008, Teamprise Client Suite provides more developers access to Visual Studio Team System, Microsoft’s award-winning Application Lifecycle Management suite,” said Ian Knox, Lead product manager in the Developer Division at Microsoft Corp. “Integration between Teamprise Client Suite and Visual Studio Team Foundation Server delivers a scalable, reliable change management solution to developers working on a variety of platforms, including Windows, Linux, and Mac OS.”

The Teamprise Client Suite currently consists of three Java-based applications – a plug-in for the Eclipse IDE, a cross-platform Explorer-style GUI application, and a command-line client. All three applications communicate directly with the Visual Studio Team Foundation Server, providing full access to the application lifecycle management features of the server from outside of the Visual Studio IDE. In addition, the company also recently announced plans to release a full-featured Java SDK for Visual Studio Team Foundation Server, based on the core libraries of the client suite.
